Malusi Mkhize Email
Malusi graduated with a BSc. Eng. in Chemical Engineering from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He is currently working towards an MSc. Eng. in Chemical Engineering (UKZN) and is supervised by Dr Bruce Sithole (CSIR and UKZN) and Mr M. G. Ntunka (UKZN) Department of Chemical Engineering. Malusi’s research interests include aspects of biomass and biorefinery, specializing in liquid biofuels and heterogeneous acid catalysis.

Mpho Namane Email
Mpho holds a BSc. in Chemistry and Biochemistry (2007), a BSc, Chemistry Honours (2008) and MSc. in Chemical Engineering (2012) from the University of Cape Town. He has experience in electrochemistry, biohydrometallurgy and metal characterization analytical methods (ICP, AA analysis). Mpho is currently studying towards a PhD on ‘Valorisation of Lignin from Kraft Black Liquors’ under the supervision of Dr Bruce Sithole and Prof. Deresh Ramjugernath. Other areas of research include: wood science and technology, lignin extraction and purification methods, pyrolysis and renewable energy.

Zikhona Tywabi Email
Zikhona obtained a BTech and an M. Tech. in chemistry at the Durban University of Technology in 2011. .She is now studying towards a D Tech. on the effect of ionic liquids on properties of regenerated dissolved pulp cellulose. She is supervised by Dr Bruce Sithole (CSIR and UKZN) and co-supervised by Prof. N. Deenadayalu (DUT).

Paul Kekana Email
Paul holds a B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering (TUT, 2006) and is currently awaiting results for his M. Tech in Chemical Engineering at TUT. The topic for his M. Tech research is “Adsorption of Cobalt and Nickel Ions from Sulphate Media by Oxalate-Modified Carbon Pellets in a Continuously Stirred Tank Reactor". He will be enrolling at UKZN for graduate studies in chemical engineering to work with Dr Bruce Sithole as his supervisor (CSIR and UKZN). Pauls’ areas of research interests are ultrafiltration and valorization of lignin from Kraft black liquor. |

Mayowa Akeem Azeez Email
Akeem completed his Ph.D. in Wood Chemical Technology (2011) at the University of Hamburg, Germany. He holds a permanent lecturing appointment (2002- till date) in the Department of Chemistry, Ekiti State University, Nigeria. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Chemical Engineering Department, University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) under the supervision of Dr. Bruce Sithole (CSIR and UKZN). His research focuses on the Catalytic Valorization of Biomass to Chemical Products.

Devi Naicker Email
Devi graduated with a B.Sc. Eng. in Chemical Engineering from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). She is currently working towards an M.Sc. Eng. in Chemical Engineering (UKZN) and is supervised by Dr Bruce Sithole (CSIR and UKZN) and Mr M. G. Ntunka (UKZN) Department of Chemical Engineering. Devi’s research interests involve the application of membrane filtration to the closure of white water systems in newsprint mills.

Elizma Syphus Email
Elizma holds a B.Eng. in Chemical Engineering obtained from the University of Stellenbosch (US). She is currently working towards an MSc in Chemical Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Bruce Sithole (CSIR and UKZN) and Prof. D. Ramjugernath (UKZN). Her research topic is on the removal of silica from the dissolving wood pulp process.
